Not About Health Care, but About Control of the People
I am disgusted by the usurpation of the Health Care System of the United States by the federal government.
The United States is founded upon the concept of Limited Government. Read the Constitution. Article 1 Section 8 enumerates the specific duties of congress. As a protection against usurpation of power, Congress is prohibited from assuming any other power by the Tenth Amendment(1) . Complete government control of the Health Care System is the most egregious, unconstitutional, attack on the personal liberty of the people of the United States imaginable. If not reversed we will not remain a free people.
The American health care system is the best in the world. Anybody can receive immediate medical attention by simply showing up at a hospital. There is no discrimination based on income, age, race, or even citizenship. The Great Majority of Americans are satisfied with their health care.
The census bureau reports that approximately 85% of the US population is covered by health insurance leaving about 46 million uninsured. Of these, about 10 million are illegal aliens while 28 million voluntarily op-out or are uninsured for 4 months or less. Only 2.7% of legal US citizens, 8.2 million, cannot pay for health services.(2)
The health care “problem” pertains to the cost, rather than the quality, of the care received by those unable to pay. The illegal alien problem, which is a tremendous cost, could easily be solved if the country had the will to deport illegal aliens after providing required medical service. Those voluntarily opting out of insurance usually pay for care received and are not a drain. Our focus should be on the remaining 8.2 million (2.7% of the US population) who receive health care but can’t pay for it.
The government solution consists of a complete absorption of the entire US health care system by the government. Under this absorption:
1. Illegal aliens would continue to receive heath care upon demand – without paying for services received;
2. Authorized services, fees, and compensation for medical personal would be set by the government;
3. The quantity and quality of doctors would decrease;
4. Medical care would be rationed;
5. Senior citizens would be “encouraged” to receive end of life counseling allowing medical attention to be focused on those considered worthy by the government;
6. Individual compliance would be achieved through penalties enforced by the IRS;
7. Individuals will be involuntarily forced out of their existing health care policies and rolled into the government system;
8. Costs will increase – as proven by Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc;
9. THE WORST OF THE WORST- unelected government bureaucrats will be making individual health care decisions on your behalf – not based on your needs, but based political considerations.
There is Nothing positive for the American People in federalized health care. Let’s analyze a few claims:
The quantity and quality of doctors would decrease: Federalized Health Care requires that doctors perform services prescribed by the government – such as abortion or euthanasia counseling, and limits treatments not approved by eliminating payment for such services.
Most doctors adhere to the Hippocratic Oath which states in principle that they will do their patients no harm -including not performing abortion or euthanasia.(3) If the government requires a doctor, or hospital staff, to perform a procedure they may personally find abhorrent – such as abortion, the affected individuals would probably leave the profession rather than perform services against their moral character. The quantity of healthcare professionals would decrease and those remaining will have much less respect for the sanctity of life.
Medical care would be rationed;(4) FDA approved Avastin is the world’s best-selling cancer drug. Yet, it is very expensive. The FDA is considering revoking approval of this drug – not because of ineffectiveness, but because they feel that the benefits may not be worth the cost. This is the first step in rationing. What is next? Is it possible that the government will start to deny joint replacements to individuals over a certain age because the government doesn’t feel that the costs justify the benefits? These decisions should be made by the doctor and the patient, and it is the patient’s responsibility to pay for the service – not the governments.
History confirms that non-enumerated government programs are usually managed by incompetent government bureaucrats and utilized for gaining political advantage rather than to responsibly meet the needs of the recipients. Look at Social Security – which is bankrupt, Medicare – which is bankrupt, Department of Education- which has delivered the lowest test scores in US history, Department of Energy – which has decreased the countries domestic energy supply and forced dependence on foreign oil. Our government’s competency record is dismal. Yet they are usurping the entire responsibility for the US Health Care and Insurance infrastructure prior to trying to address any of the failures associated with their other boondoggles. What indication is there that Government is even remotely competent to run Health Care?
The Federalization of the nation’s Health Care does nothing to address the 2.7% of the population who do not have the means to pay for services received. It does nothing to address the 10 million illegal aliens accessing our health care system with no intention of ever paying. What it does is completely negate the healthcare system which satisfies the needs of 97.5% of the US population, lowers health care quality, dramatically drives up costs, and EMPOWERS GOVERNMENT TO CONFISCATE ADDITIONAL MONEY AND DISTRIBUTE IT AS THEY CONSIDER POLITICALLY ADVANTAGEOUS.
If government is allowed to ignore Constitutional restraint, “We the People” will have lost our liberty, sacrificed our children’s liberty, and the liberty of generations to come. Government must divest itself of all responsibility for the nation’s health care and return responsibility to the People and the States through Free Market Principles.

(3) portion of the Hippocratic Oath I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgment, and I will do no harm or injustice to them.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.
In purity and according to divine law will I carry out my life and my art. I will not use the knife, even upon those suffering from stones, but I will leave this to those who are trained in this craft. Into whatever homes I go, I will enter them for the benefit of the sick, avoiding any voluntary act of impropriety or corruption, including the seduction of women or men, whether they are free men or slaves.
Whatever I see or hear in the lives of my patients, whether in connection with my professional practice or not, which ought not to be spoken of outside, I will keep secret, as considering all such things to be private.
